The Department of Education is seeking a qualified Special Education Unit - Appeals Attorney (Level 3) to join their team. This position offers a competitive salary of $106,607 - $111,107 and is open to all applicants from the New York City tri-state area.
As a Special Education Appeals Attorney (Level 3), you will be responsible for reviewing administrative and judicial decisions in special education matters for possible appeal. You will also conduct legal research, draft appellate documents, and act as a liaison for special education matters appealed to the State and Federal Court. Additionally, you will negotiate settlements and review legislation to report on its effects.
The ideal candidate for this position must have a minimum of 3 years of United States legal experience and be admitted to the New York State Bar. They should also have excellent legal research skills, strong communication and interpersonal abilities, and experience with appellate and settlement cases. Supervisory experience is preferred, and internal candidates will be given preference.
This is a Level 3 position within the Department of Education, reporting to the Special Education Appeals Unit Managing Attorney. The selected candidate must remain a member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of their employment.
